On October 22nd, Atlas Travel’s employee-run Corporate Social Responsibility program, Atlas Reachout, welcomed the start of the autumn season by beginning a series of volunteer efforts throughout our community. Thinking of the winter months just ahead of us, it seemed like the perfect time to pitch in at the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Milford, Massachusetts, the same town where we’re headquartered.
The Daily Bread Food Pantry, originally an organization founded by six churches in the Milford area, services local families in need and is run by volunteers and funded by donations of food and money from the community. The Food Pantry is always in need of volunteers, and some of our agents were in town for training—when our community outreach committee began to ask who might be interested in helping out, a few compassionate individuals stepped up right away.
Our volunteers for the evening: Becky Cole, Supervisor – Corporate Travel, Lori Schlosser, Sr. Corporate Travel Consultant – International Help Desk, and Colleen Brescia, Manager – Lead Generation and Direct Sales got to work immediately. With a quick training session from Elizabeth and Maureen, two of Daily Bread’s seasoned veterans, our trio began filling up bags of groceries for each of the 52 local families who had signed up for assistance.
“It was hard work!” Colleen recalled after the evening was over. “We really worked up a sweat that night. But we were also laughing, hearing stories from Elizabeth and Maureen, and really enjoying ourselves!” All three Atlas employees agreed that the night was a wonderful experience, and highly recommended that their peers join in too:
“It was uplifting – it felt great to help out these families in our community, and it definitely put things into perspective for us,” said Becky, “I can’t wait for the next community event.” Lori found the experience both humbling and gratifying, “It felt good to know that these families wouldn’t have to worry about where their next meal was coming from. I’d volunteer again in a heartbeat.”
Atlas will be pitching in again at The Pantry, on Tuesday and Thursday nights throughout November and December, and our CSR committee is already planning other events for the holiday season, and for 2015, including our 12th annual toy drive for The Santa Foundation, seasonal food drives, and more!
