Osgood Leads the Only Travel Management Company on the WPO’s First Global Ranking
Milford, MA – (May 9, 2014) – Atlas Travel has once again been distinguished as one of the “50 Fastest-Growing Women-Owned/Led Companies” and the only travel management company on the Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO) list. For the first time since the list’s inception, the field now has been increased from women-led companies in North America to companies around the globe. Atlas Travel President and CEO Elaine Osgood has been listed on the prestigious ranking for the fifth straight year by the WPO.
“I feel honored to be on the first global list published by the Women Presidents’ Organization,” said Osgood, who launched her company in 1986, with personal savings and a small business loan. “It is fascinating to learn about innovative business women around the world. This year, Atlas Travel has opened our first wholly owned travel office outside of North America, so it’s fitting to see the WPO list grow to embrace a global message this year as well.”
The new Atlas Travel office, located in London, is designed to bring the company’s signature service, expertise and technology to travelers in the UK. According to Osgood, the strategic decision was made at the request of a growing number of customers with travelers based in the UK and other European countries, where they couldn’t find the detailed and creative customer care offered by Atlas Travel.
“The companies that made it onto our list this year reflect the continued resourcefulness of women-led businesses,” said Marsha Firestone, Ph.D., president and founder of WPO. “We saw production soaring, with an average revenue growth of 203% from 2009 to 2013. The growth of these women-led companies is particularly impressive as the world economic recovery struggles to gain traction.”
Osgood added that travel is often considered to be a female-oriented industry and, for that reason, she is pleased to be the only travel management company on the list. To be qualified for the ranking, businesses are required to be privately held, woman-owned/led companies with annual revenue of at least $500,000 by year end 2008. Companies are then ranked according to the WPO’s sales growth formula that combines percentage and absolute growth.
According to Osgood, Atlas Travel has always been interested in strategic growth and the company has undergone tremendous expansion and change since its 25th anniversary in 2011.
“We have invested in infrastructure and expanded both our team and our technology offering considerably in the past three years,” she said. “Atlas Travel is now known not only for our signature Concourse suite of solutions and services, but also our consultative program management. We’ve identified two things that our customers are focused on: easier travel and better management. Our entire team works in concert to provide those two results more consistently than anyone in the industry.”
In addition to the WPO designation, Atlas Travel has also been recently ranked on the Inc. 5000, Hire Power Awards and The Build 100 list of America’s Strongest & Most Strategic Growth Firms.
