This week, some of our Atlas Travel team members traveled to Cancun, Mexico for a special affiliates conference presented by our global partners at BCD Travel. The three-day conference consisted of general sessions about the corporate travel industry, evolving technology, and the ever-popular conversation of “social.” In addition, groups attended breakout sessions geared towards the three major attending audiences: owners, accounts managers and sales.
While the meeting itself was a great way to touch base with the industry and other BCD affiliates, the group was also graciously hosted and entertained by The Ritz-Carlton Cancun and many other presenting sponsors such as Etihad, United, National/Enterprise, Diners Club International, and more. The weather was perfect (albeit a little windy!), the food was delicious, and the earthquake left us unscathed. Below, you can read some brief comments from a few of our attendees. Attending the BCD affiliate meetings allows Atlas to network with agencies similar in size. We meet to learn “best practices” from over 50 agencies similar in size. We share new ideas, new technologies and suggestions that can better service our clients and keep Atlas as a front runner on all levels. On a company level, our staff gets quality time to strategize and brainstorm on new ideas. Great trip and great company!

Creative juices flow more rapidly and without constraint when great minds, warm breezes and turquoise waters are in abundance, which was the case this week!
Tracy Snelling, Manager of Client Relations
I was glad to have been able to spend so much time with colleagues. The staff at the Ritz was so gracious and kind: a stand-out feature of the stay. BCD did a great job booking relevant speakers, and it was wonderful to hear how other affiliates manage their accounts. My only complaint is that the food was too good to encourage staying on one’s diet.
Stephanie Orphanos, Global Account Executive
1. Mexico is getting such bad press these days; I think it was very comforting to be treated so well. Such warm, friendly greetings as well as attentive staff. Allows visitors to forget about the country trouble. This I found from arrival at airport to the Ritz and return.
2. Cleanliness of all streets traveled from airport to hotel as well as The Ritz inside and out.
3. Beautiful views everywhere I went in the Ritz.
Laurie Kenney, Global Account Executive
The meeting was absolutely the epitome of why the face-to-face is so important. You can’t bring people together through only a network of phones, which is why the environment promoted such honest comments to truly benefit the network and our industry as a whole.
Mike Sciarretta, Sr. Manager of Travel & Expense Consulting
When you’ve got your toes in the water and your (butt) in the sand, the possibilities for collaboration are infinite! The ocean has such an ability to help us clear our thoughts and concentrate on what we can do versus what we think we cannot. Find yourself a beach somewhere and continue to grow.
Cindy Sauter, VP of Corporate Business Development
Cancun was just the spot to unwind, clear our minds, learn new strategies and come back to New England ready to go again! The Ritz-Carlton was magnificent and the company from our BCD affiliates and new relationships formed were immeasurable. Perhaps the best part of the week besides the absolute beauty, wonderful accommodations and great meetings was the ability to share time with our colleagues from Atlas Travel! What a great group of people and just wanted to thank Elaine for making it possible!! If you’re planning to visit Cancun, The Ritz-Carlton was fabulous!

Our BCD Affiliates Meeting was a unique opportunity to stay current on those important issues impacting our business today and tomorrow, as presented by the various diverse respected informed speakers and sponsors. On a different level and for me, most importantly, it provided us the connections that will help develop new business as well as help to retain current customers. This body of information as collected from our BCD brethren in tandem with the creative mindsets of our Regional TMC’s counterparts, often gleaned from private conversations, is 24K.
I found this three-day forum of committed (definitely, think about it!) community of successful industry survivors to be a real shot of adrenaline in moving us forward. Then looking inward, the chance to bond with each other as Atlas employees in such a majestic setting is invaluable. Like you know, breaking bread, or lapping yogurt or margaritas, really helps bring us all together. This gift of a “time-out” in Paradise to make us a better Atlas in so many respects helps overcome the limitations of our normal daily interface that all companies are held subject to. How can we not love what just happened to us? In fact, our karmic connections are now being quoted by Mexican authorities to be directly responsible for those significant earthquakes not very far away! What an investment in our future! Elaine, thanks!
