Mimi Cleary on the Starwood Acquisition

Marriott International announced their acquisition of Starwood hotels and Resorts Worldwide  on November 16, 2015. They have purchased the hotel chain which includes the brands Westin, the W, Sheraton and St. Regis for a total of $12.2 billion in stocks and cash. This deal was the second-largest in hotel industry history, and this merger will make Marriott the largest hotel chain in the world. Together, they will have more than 5,500 owned or franchised hotels with 1.1 million rooms in over 100 countries.

The news of this acquisition is still very new, and its long-term effects are yet to be seen. It is too soon to speculate on what the impact will be on our industry, but we do hope that these two powerful brands will keep best practices from each brand to benefit its loyal members. In the coming weeks, many questions will be on our minds: What does this mean for corporations in regard to negotiations? Will the two companies incorporate best practices to bring better value to the traveler?

There’s definitely more to come on this new development, and I look forward to sharing more as this transition progresses.

Data Analytics Company Punctuates Quarter with New Sourcing Tool

 Milford, MANovember 2nd, 2015 – Prime Numbers Technology (PNT), long-standing provider of data analysis solutions, and the independent development force behind industry-leading travel reporting and benchmarking platform, Prime Analytics, has today announced the release of its latest data analysis tool: Contract Monitoring. This release marks the second phase of PNT’s contract and vendor analysis software, Prime Sourcing, which was unveiled late 2014.

Contract Monitoring is a contract definition tool which builds upon the analytic framework established in Prime Sourcing’s first module, Dynamic Analysis. Within the tool, users are guided through an intuitive configuration and contract data loading interface, which provides real-time feedback and validates entries against historical data and PNT’s proprietary rules engine. Once contract data and discounts are loaded into Contract Monitoring, they become fully functional components within Dynamic Analysis, offering further dissection and benchmarking of contract performance.

“At its core, Contract Monitoring is an agreement optimization tool,” explained Doug Vasquez, Vice President, Software Development at Prime Numbers Technology. “On a corporate direct level, businesses can explore the performance of their current and historical contracts, which can assist in discount negotiation and preferred vendor analysis. Through the interface, corporations can further visualize the ‘Where?’ and ‘Why?’ of their current contract performance, and learn exactly which factors can help their company improve, or stay on track.”

Travel management companies (TMCs) can also leverage Contract Monitoring to gain new perspective into agency-wide contracts and supplier agreements. By defining targets for their contract and discount goals, TMCs can track the effectiveness of their negotiated agreements to reveal hidden potential for greater ROI, as well as supplier discounts.

“This new module of Prime Sourcing is a powerful tool for corporations and TMCs alike, and we’re looking forward to seeing how users interact with the tool,” added Vasquez. “We’ll be utilizing user feedback to fine-tune the last module of Prime Sourcing – Contract Modeling – which is planned for release in 2016.”

The Atlas Travel Flyers Soared Through the Jimmy Fund Walk Finish Line

On Sunday, September 27th, our community outreach team – ReachOut – geared up for an amazing cause – the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Our team, the Atlas Travel Flyers, walked to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston Massachusetts, spread awareness, and raise money to find a cure for cancer.

When signing up for the walk, participants choose the distance they wanted to walk along the Boston Marathon route – 26.2 miles, 13.1 miles, 5 miles or 3 miles. The Atlas Travel Flyers team consisted of Elaine Osgood, Mimi Cleary, Christy Conrow, Jennifer Murphy, Karen McCrink, Theresa Ryan, Anna Marie Baril, Quentin Carmichael, Colleen Brescia, Ellen Orkin, Rich Haft, Denise Kelly, Jane Davis, Brandy Proctor, Suzette Arruda, Diane Ludensky, Stephanie Chandler and Nancy Medeiros!

The weather was as close to perfect as possible for this walk – it turned out to be a brisk and sunny fall day, ideal for walking a long distance through the city of Boston. Every Atlas participant had nothing but wonderful things to say after the event:

Ellen Orkin (Direct Sales Specialist) remarked, “I liked walking the Boston Marathon route – it’s such a piece of our fabric here, and though I’ve cheered on runners from various locations along the route, it was really fun to walk the same path, experiencing the same landmarks and following the famous directions at the end: ‘Right on Hereford, left on Boylston.’”

The entire event was full of positivity, encouragement and compassion. “It was amazing to see how many people supported the cause to cure Cancer. The teams were made up of companies like ours and also families and friends, it was truly inspiring,” Denise Kelly (Manager, Group Air) explained.

The Atlas Travel Flyers had a fantastic time. Walking gave all of the team members’ the opportunity to chat with each other in ways that they don’t normally get to do at work. It provided them with time to truly get to know each other in a casual and more personal, laid back situation that strengthened bonds. “I was surprised that it went by so quickly – lots of good conversation along the way. It was nice to be able to take in all of the scenery. When you’re walking you notice so much more around you, and those neighborhoods are all very nice,” said Quentin Carmichael III (Manager, Program Management). “And Theresa Ryan (Sr. Director, Program Management) is a machine! Every place we stopped she was doing some kid of calisthenics, jumping up on curbs, and doing squats. If anybody needs to do the 26.2 next year, it’s her! Mimi Cleary (VP, Supplier Relations & Strategic Sourcing) was the closest fastest walker; she was out in front the whole time too.” Theresa Ryan is also a fitness instructor which showed as she was making sure everyone was hydrated and well stretched throughout the walk.

“This walk is such a great cause because it hits close to home with everyone. Besides our own staff members we have lost to cancer, have had cancer, or have cancer now, we all know people who have died from cancer or are suffering from cancer. This is a great cause for Atlas to support because everyone can identify with this devastating disease,” expressed Mimi Cleary (VP, Supplier Relations & Strategic Sourcing).

This year, we had 19 participants from Atlas Travel, and exceeded our company goal of raising $6,000 by raising a total of over $9,000 for the Jimmy Fund!

“I would like the thank everyone who participated in the walk and also those who donated to our fundraising campaign. As our first ReachOut organized team event, I think it was not only a huge success but also a lot of fun for everyone involved. I am very proud to have been part of the Atlas Travel Flyers team and I am also proud to have Atlas be part of such an incredible and important event. I’m excited to see the impact we have at the Jimmy Fund Walk next year!”
